Concussion Testing

Developed at the University Of Pittsburgh Medical Center, the ImPACT test is an online, user-friendly computer testing program which takes about 20 minutes to complete and is specifically designed for the management of concussions. Currently, the NFL, NBA, NHL, MLB, and numerous NCAA Division I programs utilize this advanced software.  EHS offers two types of ImPACT testing to our clients: baseline and post-injury.

Baseline testing collects data to assess an athlete's cognitive and brain function including learning and memory skills, ability to pay attention or concentrate, and how quickly he or she thinks and solves problems.  Baseline tests can be compared to a similar test at a later time if a concussion is suspected.  Athletes who participate in contact sports are recommended to have this test.  This can be done during a sports physical or as a separate visit.

Post-injury testing is conducted when a there is a suspected concussion after a traumatic injury or event. This test is usually done once the concussed individual is either 24-72 hours post-injury, or when they are symptom-free.  This test helps manage post-injury care and when the athlete may return to play.
